COVID-19 on Vancouver Island: Health officials to provide live update

B.C. health officials will return to the podium Friday for an update on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The update is scheduled for 1 p.m., when health officials may announce new pandemic restrictions ahead of the holiday season.
The news conference will be streamed live on this page and on CTV News Vancouver Island.
On Thursday, the B.C. Health Ministry announced 753 new cases of COVID-19, including 137 cases identified in the Vancouver Island region over a 24-hour period.
As of Thursday, there were 3,878 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including a record-setting 905 active cases in the Island Health region.
Island Health data identified the locations of 787 of the active cases Thursday, including 364 in the South Island, 208 in the Central Island and 215 in the North Island.
On Thursday, health officials said 135 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 had been confirmed in B.C.
Many of those variant cases, 71, were confirmed in the Island Health region.
As of Thursday, 40 people were in hospital for treatment of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island, including seven patients who required critical care.
