Congress issues notice to 11 Maharashtra MLAs for no-show during Eknath Shinde's trust vote

The Congress issued a notice to 11 Maharashtra legislators on Thursday for failing to attend Eknath Shinde's trust vote.
The Congress has issued a notice to as many as 11 MLAs from Maharashtra for their absence during a trust vote in the state Assembly. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde won the trust vote with 164 votes.
Incidentally, the Opposition got 107 votes during the Speaker's election on Sunday, but several MLAs, including senior Congress leaders such as Ashok Chavan and Vijay Wadettiwar, were absent during the trust vote.
The Congress high command has issued notices and is expected to take strong action against MLAs for no-show. Also, some of them reportedly cross-voted during the MLC election that preceded the Eknath Shinde-led rebellion.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will also hold a meeting today in which Maharashtra party chief Nana Patole, Venugopal and Rahul Gandhi will be present.
Shinde was sworn in as chief minister last Thursday, capping a 10-day-long rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, whom he blamed for moving away from the party’s principles by aligning with ideologically mismatched parties.
The previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was a mishmash of the Shiv Sena, the Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party.
The strength test came a day after ally BJP’s Rahul Narwekar was elected Speaker in the ongoing special session of the Maharashtra Assembly.
