Congress govt. should apologise to people and quit, says BJP MP

BJP demands Congress government in Telangana apologize for failing to implement promised welfare schemes due to financial excuses.

The BJP has demanded that the Congress government apologise to the people of Telangana since it is coming up with “fresh excuses” like bad financial conditions for not implementing the promised guarantees to different sections of the people before the elections.

“The government has thrown up its hands and ruling party leaders including its own MLAs are openly expressing helplessness to ground the promised welfare schemes because of an empty treasury. Were they or even Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy not aware of the fiscal situation when they made the guarantees?,” asked Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman on Thursday.

At a press conference held at the State party office, the BJP leader charged the Congress leaders with “searching” for reasons for being unable to fulfil the promises made despite promising to do the same within 100 days of coming to power. “It is now more than a year and people are ready to teach a lesson to the regime. We will continue to question the government ,” he said.

Mr. Laxman, also the national OBC president, has accused the Congress government of neither having a proper plan for implementing various schemes nor a vision for the future. It does not even have funds for paying the retirement benefits to employees even as scores of students continue to wait for the fee reimbursement to start, he added.

In a separate press meet, Legislature party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy called upon the government to ensure that all the eligible persons benefited from the social welfare schemes, and not just a chosen few from each district or mandal. The government should clarify how it intended to identify the beneficiaries including in the issuance of new ration cards or for granting the new houses. It was not right to allot a fraction of houses in each district when thousands of applications have been filed, he added.
