Even as a poster congratulating Kamal Nath for becoming the next chief minister of Madhya Pradesh has been put up at the Congress office in Bhopal, it is now emerging that the party's state unit chief is trailing in his bastion of Chhindwara. Mr Nath has won from the Chhindwara Lok Sabha Constituency multiple times since 1998 but early leads indicate that he may lose from the Assembly seat this time.

Mr Nath, who has been confident of a Congress victory in the state, continued to stay that way on Sunday. "I have not seen any trends... don't need to look till 11 am. I am very confident, I trust the voters..." he told news agency ANI shortly after counting of votes began.
