Coimbatore district administration issues precautionary measures for heavy cyclonic rainfall alert, providing emergency contact information and safety guidelines.
The Coimbatore district administration has advocated precautionary measures in the wake of heavy cyclonic rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department from December 1 to 3.
The public have been asked to dial toll-free numbers 1077 or 0422-2306051 to convey emergency information to the control room that would function round the clock. The Coimbatore City Corporation Control Room could be reached at 0422-2302323 and WhatsApp number 81900-00200.
In a press release, District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati advised the public to avoid venturing out if the requirement was not urgent on the three days.
Issuing a set of dos and don’ts, the Collector directed construction companies to remove from the work sites cranes and other materials that could sway and fall due to the winds or to reinforce their withstanding capacity.
Likewise, advertisement hoardings must be dismantled or reinforced. Washing of clothes at embankment of water bodies and taking of selfies must be avoided. Those living in low-lying areas close to water bodies must move to safer locations, the Collector said.
Avoid getting close to high-tension power lines, and handle electric gadgets with care. Also, getting close to dilapidated building must be avoided, the Collector said.
The public must desist from crossing causeways when the water is in full flow. Instructions of the transport departments put up on notice boards need to be followed. Trips to Valparai or water fall areas was not advisable, the Collector said.
