Dura-Europos Church is known as the first house church in the world. The church was originally constructed in modern-day Syria, but is now in ruins. The city was excavated in the 1920s and 1930s.

Since Dura-Europos was not originally constructed as a church, there are historians that don't believe it should hold that status that it widely does.
