China vows to protect its companies after Panama's court annulled CK Hutchison's port concession at the Panama Canal.
Beijing said on Friday (January 30, 2026) it would take "necessary measures" to protect its companies' interests after a ruling by Panama's top court annulled a concession allowing Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison to operate ports at the crucial Panama Canal.
Noting CK Hutchison had said the ruling lacked legal basis, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a regular briefing: "The Chinese side will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies."
