Chennai: Elderly woman tied, robbed of jewellery by masked man

A man wearing a mask attacked the house of an elderly woman and robbed her of gold jewellery and mobile phone in Chennai.
A 65-year-old woman was robbed of her gold jewellery and a mobile inside her house in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar in Chennai on Tuesday. The suspect broke into the house, tied her up inside the house and robbed her of six sovereigns and a mobile phone two days back. The man had covered his face with a helmet.
The victim has been identified as Aswantha Jayakumari of Kennedy Square. According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), Jayakumari was alone at her home when the suspect entered the house and pushed her to the floor. Jayakumari's daughter was out for work when the incident happened.
The masked man latched the door from inside and allegedly tied the woman's hands with a piece of cloth and removed her gold jewellery. The woman was robbed of a chain, ear studs and rings before fleeing the spot.
The incident came to light when the neighbours of the victim found her lying unconscious in the evening. The elderly woman was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar police have registered a case against the suspect and launched a hunt for him.
