The US Capitol Police Board announced Thursday the selection of Tom Manger as chief of the United States Capitol Police following a nationwide recruitment effort.
Manger, who will assume command on Friday, said in a statement, "The challenges in protecting the Capitol campus, and everyone who works or visits there, have never been more complex. The courage and dedication of the men and women of this agency were on great display on Jan. 6th." "It is now my job to ensure that they have the resources and support to continue to fulfill their mission in an ever increasingly difficult job," he added.
The alleged drug traffickers killed by the US military in a strike on September 2 were heading to link up with another, larger vessel that was bound for Suriname — a small South American country east of Venezuela – the admiral who oversaw the operation told lawmakers on Thursday according to two sources with direct knowledge of his remarks.

The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications devices, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers on Thursday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of his congressional briefings.
