Canadian diver Mia Vallée jumped back on the podium at the world aquatics championships on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary.

The Beaconsfield, Que., native earned her second podium of the event, and the country's third in diving, with silver in the women's 3-metre springboard final.

Vallée, who also captured bronze in Wednesday's 1-metre springboard, finished with 329.00 points.

"A result has never come as more of a surprise in my life," Vallée said. "I seriously thought I was in sixth [or] seventh place. I did not think I had a chance at a medal at all even if I nailed the dive.

The 21-year-old sat in fifth after three dives Saturday, but moved up to third on her fourth effort, before climbing another spot on the final attempt with a score of 66.00.

China's Yiwen Chen won gold with 366.90 points, while compatriot Yani Chang finished just behind Vallée in third with 325.85.

The Canadian clinched her spot in the 12-woman final by placing fourth in Friday's semifinal.

Vallée has earned five medals on the Grand Prix circuit (one gold, one silver, three bronze), but has never competed at the Olympics. The world championships are the first of her career.

Rylan Wiens of Pike Lake, Sask., and Montreal's Nathan Zsombor-Murray won Canada's first diving medal at these worlds with a bronze Tuesday in the men's 10-metre synchronized event.

The event concludes with the men's water polo gold-medal game between Italy and Spain at 2 p.m. ET. All the action can be streamed live on CBCSports.ca, the CBC Sports app and CBC Gem.
