Calgary officials say final water pump planned to be turned on Friday

The city says it is one step away from returning the Bearspaw feeder main to full service, with a final water pump scheduled to be turned on Friday morning — if the pipe continues to remain stable.
Officials say another pump for the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, which provides 60 per cent of the treated water used by those in the city and in surrounding municipalities, was successfully turned on Thursday morning.
The city says it takes about 24 hours to stabilize the system before moving onto each subsequent phase.
“We are proceeding carefully as we further increase flow into the pipe,” said Michael Thompson, Calgary's general manager of infrastructure services, in a release.
On Wednesday, Calgary's water use increased to 501 million litres, still above the 485 million litres target.
