BSF says jurisdiction change along borders is to bring uniformity across states
India Today
The BSF released a statement on Thursday after the Centre drew criticism over the change of the security force's jurisdiction along the international borders. The BSF said that the step was taken to "give uniformity to jurisdiction" across the states.
The Border Security Force (BSF) clarified on Thursday that the decision to extend the jurisdiction of the security force to a 50 km belt along the international border in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam was taken to “give uniformity to the jurisdiction" across the states. I strongly condemn the GoI's unilateral decision to give additional powers to BSF within 50 KM belt running along the international borders, which is a direct attack on the federalism. I urge the Union Home Minister @AmitShah to immediately rollback this irrational decision.
In an official statement, the BSF said the step was taken to "give uniformity to jurisdiction" and that the "amendment" will aid the border-guarding force in effectively curbing trans-border crimes.
