The Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra police's CID to give a status report into the killing of comrade Govind Pansare in 2015.
The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the Maharashtra police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report with the progress made between 2020 till date, in its probe into the killing of comrade Govind Pansare in 2015. The court also sought a report detailing the progress made in its probe into the killing of activist Narendra Dabholkar in 2013.
The bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and VG Bisht directed the CID to submit the report within four weeks. The agency had last submitted a status report in the case in 2020.
The bench was hearing an interim application filed by the families of both Pansare and Dabholkar. The family wants Pansare’s murder case to be transferred to Maharashtra ATS from the CID special investigation team (SIT).
During the hearing, advocate Abhay Nevagi representing the family members told the court that the state police were yet to make any headway in Pansare’s case even after seven years since the killing. “Investigation is going on in pathetic condition and nothing has happened in the case,” submitted Nevagi.
The high court has been hearing petitions filed by both the families seeking that the court monitor the probe into both killings.
While the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been probing Dabholkar's killing and a trial is underway in the case, a special investigation team (SIT) of the Maharashtra police's CID is probing Pansare's killing. However, in Pansare’s case, there has been no headway and no arrests made in all these years.
