Blood banks phase out collecting convalescent plasma, but fear a US blood shortage
CNN
With clinical trials showing little benefit from Covid-19 convalescent plasma, blood donation centers have ceased collecting collecting it, and many no longer screen donors for antibodies. Blood banks now phase a major blood shortage.
Now many are moving away from plasma collection, and even doing away with antibody testing to find volunteers who want to donate. With vaccinations up and case counts down, doctors are administering less convalescent plasma, as numerous clinical trials found the treatment does not significantly lower Covid-19 mortality or shorten hospital stays.
The alleged drug traffickers killed by the US military in a strike on September 2 were heading to link up with another, larger vessel that was bound for Suriname — a small South American country east of Venezuela – the admiral who oversaw the operation told lawmakers on Thursday according to two sources with direct knowledge of his remarks.

The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications devices, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers on Thursday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of his congressional briefings.
