
BJP's 'Nabanna Chalo' rally: Man who burnt police van in Bengal arrested, 20 held for violence so far

A total of 20 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in violence during BJP's 'Nabanna Chalo' rally in West Bengal. The man, who set a police van on fire during the rally, has also been arrested.
Seven more people were arrested for their alleged involvement in their violence during BJP's 'Nabanna Chalo' rally against alleged practices of the TMC government in Kolkata. The man, in an orange t-shirt, who was seen setting the police vehicle on fire, has also been arrested. Police have arrested 20 people so far in connection with the violence that took place during the BJP protest march on September 13.
"Kolkata police arrested 7 accused in connection with the arson case during Nabanna Chalo march called by the BJP. Arrested accused booked u/s 147, 148, 149, 353, 332, 436 of IPC," police said.
The accused arrested today have been identified as Hassan Ali (31), Kena Sardar (44), Bharat Sardar (32), Rajesh Sardar (30), Sankar Sardar (22), Dip Sarkar (27), Binay kumar Saha (36)
On Wednesday, Youth Congress national chief BS Srinivas tweeted a video in which a man could be seen using a cigarette lighter to set fire to a towel kept in a police vehicle. On Tuesday, a police car was set on fire near a police station in central Kolkata’s Burrabazar area allegedly by BJP protestors during the march.

In the video posted by Srinivas BV, a man in an orange t-shirt can be seen using a cigarette lighter to set fire to a towel kept in the police vehicle. In a while, another man can be seen vandalising the same vehicle.
At least 27 policemen were injured in the violence and two had to be hospitalised after a mob rained sticks, bricks and blows on them.
