Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was taken aback by the large number of Indian students studying in Ukraine.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday expressed surprise that thousands of Indian students are studying medicine in war-torn Ukraine.
While Nitish Kumar said that he was aware that only a few children went abroad to study medicine, he later found that thousands of Indian students were studying medicine in Ukraine and were being evacuated by the Centre amid the crisis.
The Bihar CM suggested that the central and state governments should consider why such a large number of students are studying medicine in other countries.
"Everyone will have to think about this together so that such a situation does not arise where students from the country have to study abroad," Nitish Kumar said.
He further said that while studying medicine in India requires a difficult competitive examination, there is no such requirement for admission to a medical college in Ukraine.
Concerning the low cost of medical education in Ukraine, Nitish Kumar stated that he has learned that medical education fees in many private colleges in India can reach up to Rs 1 crore, whereas MBBS fees in Ukraine range between Rs 20 and 25 lakh.
