
Biden set to announce US will double its order of Pfizer's antiviral pill to treat Covid-19

President Joe Biden is expected to announce Tuesday he is doubling the US order for Pfizer's Covid-19 antiviral pill, Paxlovid, when he receives a briefing from his Covid-19 response team and delivers remarks on the Omicron variant.
The announcement comes as as the US reached more than 100,000 hospitalizations due to to the illness for the first time in four months.
In his remarks, Biden will say the US will order 20 million courses of the drug, which has been shown to reduce hospitalizations and severe illness significantly.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth risked compromising sensitive military information that could have endangered US troops through his use of Signal to discuss attack plans, a Pentagon watchdog said in an unclassified report released Thursday.
