Karnataka CM defends suspension of police officials after stadium stampede in Bengaluru, accuses BJP and JD(S) of politicising the issue.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday defended the suspension of Bengaluru police commissioner B. Dayananda and other police officials for the stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy stadium that killed 11 people and left at least 56 injured.
Speaking to reporters, he said that police officers who have prima facie not discharged their responsibilities properly have been suspended.
Responding to a question on the BJP and the JD(S) seeking his and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s resignation and accusing them of making police officials a “scapegoat”, Mr. Siddaramaiah claimed that leaders of the Opposition are politicising the issue.
