Bengal education scam accused Partha Chatterjee turns to religion in jail

Partha Chatterjee is reading books on Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa while spending time in jail, sources told India Today.

Former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested for his involvement in an alleged teacher's recruitment scam has turned to religion during his time in jail, sources told India Today.

Partha’s lawyer Sukanya Bhattacharya sent him two books to Presidency jail from his residence on Tuesday. The books are ‘Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita’ by Mahendranath Gupta and Mahasweta Devi’s ‘Amanibas’. ‘Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita’ is based on the activities of the 19th century Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

Partha had earlier asked his lawyers to send him some books which he could read while locked inside jail.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) too had earlier sent books to Partha. According to sources, Partha Chatterjee wishes to write down his memories and everyday experiences during his judicial custody days. Partha Chatterjee also expressed his concern about his family members on Tuesday, said sources.

Partha Chatterjee was sent to judicial custody after he completed the full term of ED custody.

Sources told India Today that Partha Chatterjee is not getting any special privileges in jail.

His lawyer also said, “He is living in jail just like a common man and we have full faith in the law and judiciary. We will fight legally and he will prove himself innocent one day.”
