‘Baseless’: Sources dismiss claim that Indian Navy provided intelligence on Iranian warship

India denies claims of aiding the U.S. in sinking an Iranian warship, calling the reports "baseless."
India on Friday (March 6, 2026) has denied reports that it assisted the United States in targeting an Iranian vessel in Sri Lankan waters, with a top naval official describing such reports as “baseless”.
The officer said that India had not provided any assistance to U.S. authorities or the U.S. military in relation to the Iranian warship and clarified that existing India-U.S. communication and logistics agreements do not automatically apply to such situations.
The U.S. sank the Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka on Wednesday (March 4, 2026), triggering a sharp reaction from Iran.
The Iranian frigate, IRIS Dena, was returning home after participating in the Milan multilateral naval exercise hosted by India. At least 87 Iranian sailors were killed in the attack, which marked a major escalation in the conflict between the U.S. and Iran outside of the Persian Gulf.
