Jalesar in UP's Etah district is home to some of the largest bell manufacturing units in the world. Artisans here are now working on a bell weighing 2,100 kg for Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Uttar Pradesh's Etah district is known for its artisans who get orders from across the country and abroad for bells used in temples. There are nearly 300 factories in Etah's Jalesar that make these bells.
One such order is the cause of excitement among Etah's artisans - a 2,100 kg bell for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. This bell is 6-feet tall and 5-feet wide.
Priced at Rs 21 lakh, the bell is being readied for the grand temple at the factory owned by one Vikas Mittal.
Mittal, who is also the chairman of the Jalesar municipal corporation, said this order is the largest bell ever made in India. He also said that when rung, the sound of the bell would be heard in a 1-2 km radius.
The same factory has also received orders to make 10 bells of 500, 250, 100 kg each for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
One artisan who is working on this order explained the process involved in making bells for a temple.
The first step is the preparation of brass by mixing copper and zinc. Brass is then heated at 900 degrees Celsius, causing it to melt.
