Three top aides to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth released a statement on X after being fired from the Pentagon on Friday night amid an unauthorized leak investigation.
After being placed on leave and escorted from the building this week, the employees said they were "incredibly disappointed" by the manner in which their service at the Defense Department ended. "Unnamed Pentagon officials have slandered our character with baseless attacks on our way out the door," the aides wrote. "All three of us served our country honorably in uniform - for two of us, this included deployments to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And, based on our collective service, we understand the importance of information security and worked every day to protect it."
