Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Fund Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has officially announced the value of Zakat Al-Fitr for the year 2026, setting it at QR15 per person.
This decision aligns with the Department’s ongoing efforts to organise the collection and distribution of Zakat according to Islamic Sharia and reflects the spirit of its Ramadan campaign.
The Department emphasised its commitment to the Prophetic tradition (Sunnah) by collecting Zakat in cash while distributing it as food, the staple diet of the country, to ensure it reaches deserving recipients before the Eid Al-Fitr prayer. This practice follows the Hadith narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar, which established Zakat Al-Fitr as a “saa” of food to purify the fasting person from vain talk and to feed the poor.
Malallah Abdulrahman Al Jaber, Director of the Zakat Fund Department, explained that donors can authorise the Department to manage their Zakat throughout the month of Ramadan.
The Department takes full responsibility for purchasing and distributing the food to beneficiaries at the religiously prescribed time, thereby ensuring the donor’s obligation is fulfilled. “We urge all individuals and companies to pay their Zakat Al-Fitr promptly,” Al Jaber stated. “It plays a vital role in fostering social solidarity and bringing joy to the hearts of those in need during the festive occasion of Eid.”
