Union minister Prakash Javadekar has announced that everyone above the age of 45 years can get the Covid-19 vaccine from April 1. The government had earlier allowed only people with co-morbidities to take the jab in this age group. According to the population projection, 20.68 crore people fall under the age bracket of 45-59, of which 47 lakh have been inoculated as they had co-morbidities. This leaves 20.2 crore people between 45 and 60 years of age who are due for vaccination. Going by the current pace, it may take 322 days for everyone to be vaccinated in this age group, India Today Data Intelligence Unit (DIU) has found. Nearly half of India’s healthcare workers are still left to be inoculated even after over two months since the vaccination process started. The government had released a list of 92.6 lakh health workers across central and state governments and the private sector, who were registered for vaccination. As of March 24, 2021, some 79.2 lakh of them have received the first dose, while 50.2 lakh healthcare workers have received the second dose and have been completely vaccinated.More Related News
