Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the state government is going to take some 'pragmatic decisions' when deciding on the renewal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the state later this year.
Hinting at the removal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said some expected positive developments will be visible in 2022 and Assam will see some rationalization of AFSPA during the year.
" The Army has virtually withdrawn from Assam, leaving only 5-6 districts. After four months, AFSPA is coming for renewal and the Assam government is going to take some pragmatic decisions at that stage in consultation with the Home department. In regard to Nagaland, the central government has already constituted a committee and in the next 45 days we are going to see certain positive developments," CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
