Los Angeles, California, the United States — For 66-year-old Mariam Sbeitan Ali, the latest escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine has reawakened traumatic memories. Ali was only 12 years old and living in East Jerusalem when the 1967 Arab-Israeli war began. She remembers washing dishes in the courtyard of her home when the bombs started to fall.
