Andhra BJP workers oppose setting up of Tipu Sultan's statue in Proddatur

Several workers of the BJP were detained on Tuesday ahead of a protest against the setting up of Tipu Sultan's statue in Proddatur.

Proddatur was converted into a garrison on Tuesday ahead of a march of BJP workers from Andhra Pradesh against the setting up of a statue of Tipu Sultan in the town. The BJP chief of Andhra unit, Somu Veerraju, who is on a ‘Devalaya Darshanam’ campaign, was scheduled to visit the junction where a Tipu Sultan statue has been proposed by the ruling party.
