Stockholm: Secretary-General of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) H E Ingvar Mattson said that the visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Sweden is the most significant event in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said that the visit of H H the Amir is an important step towards improving and strengthening relations between the two countries, adding that the visit will open new doors for cooperation between Qatar and Sweden in various fields, particularly parliamentary cooperation.

He noted that Qatar and Sweden share significant alignment on issues related to international security and peace, trade and investment, climate crisis, energy and environment, transport, as well as parliamentary cooperation between the Shura Council and the Swedish Riksdag.

The Secretary-General of the Swedish Parliament praised the State of Qatar's efforts as a mediator in international conflicts and disputes, and as a constructive partner in achieving international security and peace. He highlighted Sweden's desire to collaborate with Qatar in this capacity, noting that his country values the importance and necessity of mediation, especially in severe disputes where the conflicting parties cannot find pathways to peace and stability. He emphasized the critical role the State of Qatar plays in mediation and conflict resolution, stressing the importance of supporting and strengthening this role to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East. He said that several members of the Shura Council have been received at the Riksdag. During these meetings, various issues on the agenda were discussed, he added, noting the significance of these encounters in enhancing parliamentary cooperation for future discussions targeting key issues such as international peace and security, climate, and the development of business and investments between the two countries.

Ingvar Mattson added that regional organizations in the Gulf region and Europe have found ways to cooperate thus far, but there is still a significant ambition to improve and enhance this cooperation, particularly in areas where mutual benefits are substantial, especially in environmental, energy, climate, and security fields, as well as mediterranean issues since the region is an important transportation route and environmental concern.
