Police said none of the staffers assigned to the ICU ward was present at the time of the fire. They had gone to a nearby eatery to have tea and breakfast.
Utter neglect by the staff in charge of the ICU at Ahmednagar District Hospital has been laid bare after 11 patients lost their lives in a fire on November 6. India Today TV spoke to people whose kin were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where the fire broke out and the police to find out what had happened.
Among the patients was Vivek Khatik’s 65-year-old father. “My father had asked me to get him a table fan as he did not get ample fresh air from the air-conditioning system of the hospital.” Vivek (34) shared that as he searched the market for a small fan, one of his friends informed him about the fire.
