AIADMK Tussle: OPS Hopes For High Court Halt As EPS Seeks To Take Over Party Leadership
NDTV
OPS is fighting against attempts by EPS faction to junk the dual leadership system and bring back the post of one supreme General Secretary for AIADMK
The Madras High Court will today hear a plea by AIADMK joint coordinator O Panneerselvam (or OPS) seeking to halt a July 11 meet of the party's General Council called by the opposing camp, led by E Palaniswamy (or EPS).
EPS wants to do away with the dual leadership that he shares with OPS -- and bring back the post of one supreme General Secretary -- by amending bylaws through the General Council, the prime decision-making body of the party. OPS wants the present system to continue.
Yesterday, the EPS faction that wants a single leader had some good news from the Supreme Court. In an interim order, the Supreme Court halted a June 23 order of the High Court that had stopped the party council from passing any "unannounced" resolutions on leadership. The council had plans to amend the bylaws to enable unitary leadership under EPS. But OPS had gone to the High Court, which had stopped any such move.
