A timeline of Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry’s relationship

A timeline of Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry’s relationship

CBC
Tuesday, October 28, 2025 02:48:10 PM UTC

It appears there are fireworks between Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry after all.

The former prime minister and the pop star recently made their first public appearance as a couple, after months of speculation about the nature of their relationship.

Neither Perry nor Trudeau have spoken publicly yet about the matter.

For context, earlier this year, Perry and her longtime fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom, announced they were separating after seven years. They have a daughter together.

Similarly, in the summer of 2023, Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire separated after an 18-year relationship; they have three children. This past March, Trudeau resigned as leader of the Liberal Party and prime minister.

Here’s what we’ve seen so far from the new couple.

Trudeau and Perry were spotted out together in Montreal.

First, they went on a walk in Mount Royal Park with Perry’s dog. Afterward, they dined together at a popular upscale restaurant called Le Violon. Later on, they were seen having drinks at a trendy bar Trudeau has been known to visit called Taverne Atlantic.

Two days later, Trudeau was seen in the crowd at Perry’s Montreal concert on the Lifetimes tour, along with his teenage daughter Ella-Grace. At one point, he was spotted singing along to Perry's hit song Firework.

A couple of months later, the Daily Mail published photos of Trudeau and Perry on board her yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, Calif. In the photos, Perry is wearing a dark swimsuit and Trudeau is wearing dark pants and no shirt. They share an intimate embrace.

During Perry’s concert stop in London, the pop star brought a fan on stage who then proposed to her. In response, she made jokes alluding to the fact that she was no longer single as of recently.

The pair was spotted holding hands while leaving a cabaret show at the Crazy Horse Paris. In a video shared by TMZ, Trudeau, dressed in a dark blazer, T-shirt and pants, helps Perry, who’s wearing a long red dress, into a car before getting in himself.

The Saturday night outing on Perry’s 41st birthday is the first time the two have made a public outing as a couple.

There have been many think pieces about what this relationship could signal about our current cultural and political climate.
