
80-year-old former East Germany secret police officer goes on trial for 1974 border killing

An 80-year-old former officer of East Germany's secret police has been put on trial for the murder of a Polish man at a Berlin border crossing 50 years ago.
He did not speak as the the trial opened, but his lawyer said that her client contests the accusations against him, German news agency dpa reported. There are no formal pleas in the German legal system.
