At least eight people were shot at a recreation area in Rochester Hills, Michigan, on Saturday, and a suspect is contained at a home surrounded by officers near the crime scene, police said. The victims were injured in the shooting at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills and transported to multiple hospitals with “varying kinds of injuries,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said during a Saturday evening news conference. The sheriff did not have further details on the extent of the injuries but said he knew at least one person was out of surgery and “did well.” Rochester Hills is about 27 miles north of Detroit. At least two of the victims are children, authorities said. One of the victims was 8 years old, said Bouchard, who added he could not comment on the age of the other victims. The sheriff stressed the information is preliminary and the incident is changing “by the second.” Initially, at a press conference Saturday, authorities said there were nine, “maybe 10” injured gunshot victims.

The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications devices, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers on Thursday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of his congressional briefings.
