Three people died in a collision between a sedan and a transport truck Thursday evening on Route 11 in northern New Brunswick.
Richard said the collision happened near the Black Point area, part of the community of Heron Bay, which also includes Dalhousie.
The 25-year-old driver of the car and two passengers, an 18-year-old and 27-year-old, died at the scene, police said.
The three are from Moncton, Dalhousie and Campbellton, police said, but other information, including their relationship to each other, was not released.
The transport driver was taken to hospital and later released.
RCMP Sgt. Rejean Richard of the Campbellton detachment said police, the Belledune Fire Department, and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to the crash at about 7 p.m.
Richard said police haven't determined the cause of the collision. A police news release said it is believed the car crossed the centre line and hit the truck head on.
“The road condition was a little wet, nothing out of the ordinary, but that's all we have so far,” Richard said.
Richard said RCMP are still investigating but they reopened the section of the highway that had been closed for 11 hours because of the collision.
“We have some fatal collisions every year, unfortunate, of course," Richard said. “We would wish that it wouldn't happen so often.”
