A second suspect was arrested Thursday in connection to the killing of a man whose body was found in southwest Calgary in July. In a news release, Calgary Police Service said officers arrested a woman in the Forest Lawn area as part of the investigation into the death of 34-year-old Shawn Garry McCormack, whose body was discovered in July in an alley in Upper Mount Royal. While police say the woman had undergone questioning, they noted she has yet to be charged. The woman is the second person to be arrested in the homicide investigation. The first, 29-year-old Devon William Shedrick of Calgary, was arrested in late September and charged with first-degree murder.
Previously, police said McCormack's killing was a "targeted incident." However, no information on a possible motive has been released. The investigation into McCormack's death began July 3, after a person walking their dog spotted a body in the alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W. An autopsy concluded the body was McCormack's, and investigators later determined he had died in a home in the Forest Lawn area, nearly 10 kilometres east from where his body was found. Investigators believe other people might have aided in the killing, and still others might have information on the homicide.
"Our investigators have worked tirelessly to examine, and re-examine, every piece of evidence in this case," Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service's homicide unit said in a statement. He added that the public's help has been vital to the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information on the homicide to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is looking for 50 substitute bus drivers, and it'll be recruiting at three job fairs on Saturday, June 8. The job fairs are located at the Atlantic Superstore in Montague, Royalty Crossing in Charlottetown, and the bus parking lot of Three Oaks Senior High in Summerside. All three run from 9 a.m. until noon. Dave Gillis, the director of transportation and risk management for the Public Schools Branch, said the number of substitute drivers they're hiring isn't unusual. "We are always looking for more. Our drivers tend to have an older demographic," he said.
