The government and appropriate authorities have been apprised of the incident and, for the time being, the patients are being treated with alternatives for Amphotericin-B.
At least 27 patients suffering from black fungus at Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC) in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district had an adverse reaction after they were given shots of Amphotericin-B. In light of the incident, the hospital, where 42 black fungus patients are admitted, immediately halted the use of the injection, which is a key drug in the treatment of the fungal disease also known as mucormycosis. BMC public relations officer Dr Umesh Patel told India Today that 27 patients were administered Amphotericin-B injections on Saturday at around 6 pm. Very soon, these patients started showing adverse effects like mild fever, chills and vomiting. Use of the injection has been put on hold for now and alternative drugs are being used instead. The condition of the patients is stable now.More Related News
