Students and teachers at John Wise PS in St. Thomas and Kensal Park French Immersion Public School in London will move to online learning starting Wednesday because of operational concerns.
The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) said the temporary closures were due to staffing issues. Classes are expected to resume in-person on Monday.
According to the Ontario absences reporting data, John Wise PS has a staff and student absence rate of 16.8 per cent. The province doesn't break the figure down into specific numbers for staff or students.
The TVDSB tracks student and staff COVID-19 daily screener responses, which parents and teachers submit before school each day. John Wise PS, which has over 40 teachers and educational assistants teaching about 575 students, had 16 people who did not pass screening on Monday.
These closures mean four schools within the board have had to temporarily close since students returned to in-person learning on Jan. 17. C.C. Carrothers PS moved to online learning on Friday and will return to in-person learning on Wednesday.
Princess Elizabeth PS also transitioned to online learning for a week due to staffing challenges, returning to the classroom on Monday.
The TVDSB said classroom teachers will contact families to coordinate synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities.
