Local police officers said at least 17 people were found dead at a nightclub in South Africa's southern city of East London on Sunday.

"We got a report about 17 (people) who died in a local tavern in Scenery Park which is based in East London," provincial police chief brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana told AFP. He added that the authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to him, the victims were aged between 18 and 20 years. The police are also trying to calm down the crowd gathered outside the club in the city.
