China's consumer price index (CPI) , a main gauge of inflation,rose 0.9 percent year on year in January, down from the 1.5-percent increase a month ago, the National Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday.
国家统计局16日发布数据，1月份，全国居民消费价格指数（CPI）同比上涨0.9%，涨幅比上月回落0.6个百分点。CPI是衡量通货膨胀的重要指标之一。

居民消费价格指数（Consumer Price Index，简称CPI）是度量居民生活消费品（consumer goods）和服务(services)价格水平随着时间变动的相对数，综合反映居民购买的生活消费品和服务价格水平的变动情况，是衡量通货膨胀（inflation）的重要指标。
CPI统计调查涵盖全国城乡居民生活消费的食品烟酒(Food, Tobacco and Liquor)、衣着(Clothing)、居住(Residence)、生活用品及服务(Household Articles and Services)、交通通信(Transportation and Communication)、教育文化娱乐(Education, Culture and Recreation)、医疗保健(Health Care)、其他用品及服务(Other Articles and Services)等8大类、268个基本分类的商品与服务价格。
CPI的计算方法是一组固定商品按当期价格的价值，除以这组固定商品按基期价格计算的价值，再乘100。这组固定商品，也被称为一个篮子(the CPI basket)。篮子里的商品种类和权重也会根据情况进行调整。
A breakdown of the data showed that food prices dropped 3.8 percent year on year, a decline 2.6 percentage points higher than that in December 2021.
