Chinese President Xi Jinping and other Party and state leaders attended a ceremony to present flower baskets to fallen heroes at Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing on September 30. The event was held to mark Martyrs' Day.

2014年8月31日，十二届全国人大常委会第十次会议经表决，通过了关于设立烈士纪念日的决定，以法律形式将9月30日设立为烈士纪念日，并规定每年9月30日国家举行纪念烈士活动。
2018年4月27日，十三届全国人大常委会第二次会议通过的《中华人民共和国英雄烈士保护法》规定，国家和人民永远尊崇、铭记英雄烈士为国家、人民和民族作出的牺牲和贡献。国家保护英雄烈士，对英雄烈士予以褒扬、纪念，加强对英雄烈士事迹和精神的宣传、教育，维护英雄烈士尊严和合法权益。此外，该法还规定，以侮辱、诽谤或者其他方式侵害英雄烈士的姓名、肖像、名誉、荣誉，损害社会公共利益的，依法承担民事责任；构成违反治安管理行为的，由公安机关依法给予治安管理处罚；构成犯罪的，依法追究刑事责任。

此时此刻，我们深切怀念为中国革命、建设、改革，为中国共产党建立、巩固、发展作出重大贡献的毛泽东、周恩来、刘少奇、朱德、邓小平、陈云同志等老一辈革命家，深切怀念为建立、捍卫、建设新中国英勇牺牲的革命先烈，深切怀念为改革开放和社会主义现代化建设英勇献身的革命烈士，深切怀念近代以来为民族独立和人民解放顽强奋斗的所有仁人志士。
