近年来，特别是新冠全球大流行病发生以来，bubble（气泡；泡沫）这个词有了新的意义。 这个意义衍生自泡泡的形状，指的是在疫情暴发期间，人们形成的一个封闭的小群体或者小圈子。圈子里的人，通常是家庭成员、同事、朋友、同学等，对彼此的健康状况知根知底，在确认都健康的前提下，大家进行面对面的互动，比如聊天、运动、吃饭等，但他们与圈子外的人很少接触或不接触。这样做既能最大程度降低风险，减少病毒传播，又有利于人们的心理健康。 针对bubble这一新含义，韦伯斯特字典是这样解释的： Bubble: a usually small group of people (such as family members, friends, coworkers, or classmates) who regularly interact closely with one another but with few or no others in order to minimize exposure and reduce the transmission of infection during an outbreak of a contagious disease.
