A new study from Imperial's School of Public Health in London found that diets high in ultra-processed foods may elevate the risks of various types of cancer. Here's what to know.
The study from the U.K. tracked the diets of 200,000 adults between the ages of 40 and 69 over a decade, using the NOVA food classification system to determine the level of food processing. Designed by researchers at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, NOVA groups foods into four groups: unprocessed, processed culinary ingredients, processed and ultra-processed. "This has important implications for future health outcomes." Melissa Rudy is health editor and a member of the lifestyle team at Fox News Digital.
Researchers in London also looked at the frequency of cancer diagnoses and cancer-related deaths among that same group of adults.
