Tokyo Olympics: India men's doubles pair of Chirag, Satwik win Group A game but fail to qualify for quarterfinal

The Indian duo defeated Lane and Vendy 21-17, 21-19 in their final group stage match but failed to qualify for quarterfinal round.
The Sports Authority of India tweeted, "Kudos to Men's Doubles pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on winning the match against Team Great Britain 2-0. Their journey in #Tokyo2020 has been thrilling, however they fail to qualify for the next stage. #badminton #Olympics #Cheer4India." Both Chirag and Satwik put their first class game on the court and won the first game 21-17. The Indian duo continued the pace and went on to win the match in straight games after winning the second game 21–19. The only pair to beat the Chinese Taipei duo of Yang Lee and Lin-Chi Wang in 2021. The first Indian men's doubles pair to win two matches at an Olympics. Earlier on Monday, Shetty told the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) website, "We started well in both the first and second games. In the second, we had a key point leading 6-3 and we were on top, it was our point, but we somehow messed it up and they played well, and from there we gave up some easy points and that frustrated us." Talking about the match, Satwik said, "They are more steady now than before. Their service was really brilliant today. We couldn't do anything about their service. We tried but we couldn't find a way, and it's the same story from before against them. We couldn't find a way." Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were defeated by world number one Indonesian pair of Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo in the Group A play stage at Musashino Forest Plaza Court here on Monday.
