Erode rings in 2025 with pomp and gaiety

District residents celebrated New Year 2025 with fervor, fireworks, and prayers, while police ensured safety and controlled celebrations.
People across the district ushered in the New Year 2025 with great fervour and revelry at midnight on Wednesday.
Crowds began gathering at 10 p.m. on Tuesday outside the CSI Brough Memorial Church at Panneerselvam Park Junction. As the clock struck twelve, a large screen on the church displayed “Welcome 2025”, to which the crowd erupted with cries of “Happy New Year”. Revellers danced, exchanged greetings, and lit up the midnight sky with fireworks till 1 a.m., when police officials asked the crowd to disperse.
Special prayers were held in places of worship, where devotees thronged in large numbers before midnight and early morning.
To ensure public safety, police erected temporary barricades on roads across the district and conducted vehicle checks to deter drunk driving. Motorists driving at high speed were let off with a warning, and celebrations were wrapped up by 1 a.m. No major untoward incidents were reported during the celebrations, police said. Hotels, restaurants, and bars that were organising parties also reported good business on New Year’s Eve.
