Cyclone Tauktae to approach Gujarat tonight, Army assures assistance

The India Meteorological Department has predicted that Cyclone Tauktae will hit the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva between 8 pm and 11:30 pm.
The maximum impact is likely to be in Saurashtra including Union Territory of DIU- accordingly approximately 60 integrated teams are poised to be employed in aid to CIV Authority there. Six teams each are being staged forward to DIU and Porbandar. Around 100 NDRF teams have been deployed across the nation, of which 45 teams are active in Gujarat alone. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that Cyclone Tauktae will hit the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva between 8 pm and 11:30 pm. In a precautionary measure, the Gujarat government has shifted over a lakh people living in coastal areas to safer place following the alert issued by IMD. Several places in 21 districts received light rainfall due to the cyclone. Six talukas received over one inch of rainfall, the state government said. The state government has made special arrangements to facilitate transportation to covid patients and has ensured uninterrupted electricity. Hundreds of ambulances have been kept on standby to shift patients in cases of emergency, news agency PTI reported. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held telephonic conversation with chief minister Vijay Rupani and took stock of preparedness. He has also asked him to ensure least disruption in oxygen supply from Gujarat's Jamnagar - the site of a Reliance Industries' refinery that is currently India's largest single-location medical oxygen provider. Oxygen supply is of critical importance with lakhs of Covid patients on life support. Meanwhile, Reliance has said it is working to ensure supply but warned it may be forced to shut down for a few hours.More Related News
