113 complaints settled at ‘Karuthalum Kaithangum’ adalat

Residents seek solutions for pension reinstatement, land encroachment, and ration cards at taluk-level adalat in Kunnathur.

C. Prasannan Pillai, a resident of Sooranadu South, had come to ‘Karuthalum Kaithangum,’ a taluk-level adalat, held at Kunnathur on Friday seeking reinstatement of pension for his 27-year-old son.

Ranjith, who has 80% mental disability, was receiving financial assistance under Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme and when the pension was discontinued the Finance Minister had it reinstated. But the pension has been discontinued since August 2024 and the distraught family was relieved when Minister K.N. Balagopal directed the District Collector to urgently examine Mr. Pillai’s application and find a solution, and to inform the government if any policy decisions need to be made. Additionally, he instructed that the ₹600 that his wife Ushakumari had been receiving under the Ashwasakiranam scheme, which has also been discontinued, be reinstated.

Peruvelikkara resident O. Suresh was at the adalat with the complaint that his neighbour had encroached the puramboke land blocking road access. According to him a complaint was filed five years after his neighbours had constructed a wall blocking road access to five families. A subsequent resurvey found that the land was puramboke and a notice was issued to the family. However, the wall has not yet been demolished. He said his family, which includes a differently abled mother and an uncle, is facing difficulties in accessing medical care and other necessities. Minister J. Chinchuraan has instructed to serve a notice and take necessary action within two days.

Chellamma, a widow working in a cashew factory, was among 15 people who received Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card at the adalat. While eleven people were given AAY cards, four were given priority cards. A total of 452 complaints were received in the Kunnathur Taluk as part of the Karuthalum Kaithaangum adalat. Of the 245 complaints received earlier, 113 were resolved. On the day of the adalat, 207 new complaints were received and these have been forwarded to the concerned departments for further action. Ministers K.N. Balagopal, J. Chinchurani, Kovoor Kunjumon, MLA, district panchayat president P.K. Gopan, District Collector N. Devidas, Subcollector Nishant Sihara and LSG representatives were present.
