Good times end as toy maker Basic Fun! lays off staff

Even as the US Department of Labor reported stronger-than-expected jobs growth for the month of February, the maker of Tonka trucks was handing out pinks slips amid a coronavirus sales slump. Basic Fun! of Boca Raton, Florida, laid off 18 people on Friday — or 10 percent of its staff, the toy maker’s Chief Executive Jay Foreman told The Post. The layoffs come as the company that is also behind Lite-Brite and Uncle Milton games has been unable to fulfill all of its retail orders for April, May and June due to production woes in China, where the virus has killed more than 3,000 people, Foreman said.
