New York state really, really wanted Amazon — to the tune of billions

State officials offered Amazon almost a billion dollars more in incentives than previously reported in hopes of luring the company to New York City, The Wall Street Journal reports. The incentives package — which included not just tax credits but an offer to chip in on some employee salaries — was dangled in the ultimately dashed hope that the company would locate its second headquarters in the city, the Journal said Saturday, citing records obtained from the state through a Freedom of Information Law request.
