LSU safety Grant Delpit molded by family’s Katrina devastation

NEW ORLEANS — Grant Delpit didn’t know he’d never return home. He was 6. He didn’t know much. But his parents — and neighbors throughout Morrison Road and New Orleans East — weren’t prepared, either. They didn’t know what Hurricane Katrina would become. The family didn’t realize when they went for a weekend getaway to Memphis in August 2005 that they’d see their house submerged on TV, the roof peeking above the water. “I thought we were going on vacation and I thought we were going right back,” LSU’s star safety said. “It ended up flooding the whole house.
