Should you leave for a job that doesn’t provide a salary boost?

I’ve heard you should never leave a job for less than a 30 percent increase in salary. Is that true? I’ve heard lots of conventional wisdom when it comes to career advice, and while much of the advice is conventional, it often isn’t wise. Let me ask you a question: If you are unhappy in your job and someone offers you a new opportunity, how much more money would you need to make the switch? Of course, you should always try to negotiate the best package, but many people would make that trade even without a compensation increase. The opposite is true if you are happy in your job.
